Five health workers charged with stealing urine specimen containers

Five health sector workers seen in a video transporting stolen medical supplies without authority have been charged.

Humphrey Mwagu, John Kiema, Antony Micheru, Paul Karanja and Wanjiru Gituku are accused that on 21st February 2023 in Kilimani area, jointly with others not before court,  stole urine specimen containers valued at Sh 184,000, the property of the Ministry of Health.

Kiema, Micheru and Karanja are further charged with handling stolen property. The trio is accused that  on the same date, jointly with others not before court, dishonesty assisted in retention of 20 boxes of urine samples valued at Sh 184,000 despite knowing that they were stolen.

All the accused persons are also charged with conspiracy to commit a felony by stealing the said urine samples.

They denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and were released on a cash bail of Sh 100,000 each.

The case will be mentioned on 7th March 2023.
