Four men alleged to have trespassed in a five acre piece of land in Karen, Nairobi, which is presumed to belong to a top politician in Kenya have been detained for two days to allow police to complete investigations into the matter.

According to the police, Mohammed Mohammud Wako alias Hussein Mohammed, James Owino Opere, Jonah Saluuni Tuuko and Samakini Lesingiran are suspected to be land fraudsters and may be holding forged title deeds of the land located along Windy Ridge lane in Karen.

Sergeant Lawson Shumu attached to DCI Headquarters land fraud Investigations Unit, urged the court to detain the suspects to enable him to investigate allegations of conspiracy to defraud, forgery, obtaining land registration by false pretense and forcible entry.

“On 3rd January this year, the suspects entered the parcel of land L. R. No. 1159/88 without authority and started searching for beacons and were suspected to have been planning to sell the land located along Windy Ridge lane Karen to unsuspecting members of the public,” added Sergeant Shumu.

The investigating officer further told the court the suspects are indirectly or directly connected to ongoing investigations over the same land.

The police were seeking to detain the four for seven days but their lawyer Danstan Omari opposed the application saying the sought days were too long.

According to the lawyer, his clients told him the five acres belong to the head of the State.

After hearing the application, Senior Resident Magistrate Jane Kamau directed that the suspects be detained for two days at Karen police station after which they shall be released on a cash bail of Sh 30,000 each.
