Indian,Kenyan detained over human trafficking suspicions

An indian national and a kenyan have been detainrd for five days to allow police to complete investigations human smuggling.

 

Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Nzakyo gave the orders to detain Patel Ketulkumar Govindbhai and Patroba Odhiambo Tobia after they were arrested by immigration officers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

 

The court heard that the arrest of the two was as a result of intelligence and preliminary investigations relating to human smuggling racket at JKIA involving Kenyans and foreign nationals who facilitate procurement of fake visas and travel documents.

 

At the time of arrest, Immigration officers recovered mobile phones, sim cards, passports, tickets and boarding passes which are currently being subjected to forensic examinations and the results are yet to be obtained.

 

According to the investigators, intelligence obtained show that Govindbhai and Odhiambo are involved in human trafficking through JKIA to various international destinations.

 

The court heard that if released, the two respondents are likely to abscond and interfere with investigations.

The case will be mentioned on 26th February.
