Lawyer charged with stealing client’s Sh 7M compensation money

A lawyer has been charged with stealing his client’s Sh 7.9 million compensation that had been awarded to him.

Charles Muoki Musyoki is accused of stealing the Sh 7,954,443.90 being compensation awarded to Moses Munywoki Mwendwa that was remitted to him by the office of the Attorney General, money that he was to deliver to his client.

Musyoki is alleged to have committed the offence on 10th January 2018  within Nairobi County while serving as an advocate of the High Court and representing the said Moses Munywoki Mwendwa.

He is also facing a charge of forgery. The court heard that on 30th November 2017 within Nairobi County, Musyoki, with intent to defraud or deceive forged Munywoki’s signature in discharge voucher purporting that it is a discharge voucher signed by Munywoki.

The lawyer is also charged with knowingly and fraudulently uttering a forged voucher by presenting it to the office of the AG for purposes of payment of Sh 7,954,443.90 purporting that it is Munywoki’s voucher.

He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and was granted a bond of Sh 2 million with alternative cash bail of Sh 400,000.
