Makongeni Member of County Assembly has been charged with obtaining over 2.1 million from a businesswoman purporting to be in a position to sell her a piece of land.
Peter Anyule Imwatok who is also the Nairobi County Assembly minority whip is accused of obtaining Sh 2,190,000 from Fresky Jepchirchir Bett by pretending that he was in a position to sell a parcel of land Nairobi/block 155/1/578, a fact he knew was false.
The accused is alleged to have committed the offence between 1st February and 31st October 2017 in Nairobi with intent to defraud.
He was arrested on Wednesday night under a warrant of arrest issued on 4th March for failing to appear in court.
Imwatok denies the charges before Principal Magistrate Kenneth Cheruiyot and pleaded to be released on lenient cash bail on grounds that he is not at flight risk.
After considering his plea, the court granted him a cash bail of Sh 200, 000.
The MCA was supposes to attend court on 4th March when the warrant was issued in a criminal case where he is facing charges of being in possession of a firearm and ammunition without a certificate.
Imwatok is accused of unlawfully being in possession of a Ceska gun on 10th September 2017 at Galito’s restaurant on the junction of Lusaka and Enterprise road in Industrial Area Nairobi.
He is also charged with unlawfully being in possession of of 13 rounds of 9mm caliber ammunition and also making and uttering a false firearm certificate purporting it to be genuine with intent to deceive.
