A man has been charged with obtaining Sh 20 million from a woman he claimed to be his spouse by pretending he could get a colossal amount of money from an offshore bank account.
Tolbert Kemboi Chelogoi is accused of obtaining Sh 20,096,00 from Erica Kakile Mwania by falsely pretending that he was in a position to get a large amount of money in an offshore bank account that would be beneficial to her.
Chelogoi is alleged to have committed the offence on diverse dates between 5th October 2022 and the 27th July 2023 in Nairobi with intent to defraud.
He denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi.
Through his lawyer, Chelogoi asked the court to grant him lenient bail terms stating that Mwania is his spouse and have been living together.
However , the complainant denied the allegations of a relationship with the accused person.
He was granted a bond of Sh 3 million plus surety of a similar amount with alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000.
