Man charged with stealing KPLC goods valued at 20M

A businessman has been charged with stealing goods in transit from Longonot to Marti –Tower No. 305 within Samburu County valued at Sh 20,000,000.

Joseph Kihara Karanja is accused of stealing the goods (six electrical conductor drums) on diverse dates between 8th and 21st August 2018 at unknown place in the Republic Of Kenya jointly with others not before court.

Karanja also faced another charge of vandalism by willfully and unlawfully damaging six drums of aluminum conductors wire measuring 15,000 meters by cutting them into pieces without the authority of Joseph Njue Johana of Wallrons Transporters solution.

He is alleged to have committed the offenses n similar dates at Membley Estate in Ruiru within Kiambu County.

In the alternative charge of handling stolen goods the court heard that the accused person dishonestly retained twelve steel wire guard and fifteen tones of high voltage electrical steel wire knowing or having reason to believe them to be stolen goods.

He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi who granted him a bond of Sh 1 million or alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000.The case will be mentioned on 10th September 2018.

The court further heard that the accused is required before Thika Law Courts to answer to other charges.
