The assault case against the loser of the Laikipia North Parliamentary seat Mathew Lempurkel which had kicked off had to be halt after the defense lawyer requested for time to go through a document he claimed not to have been served.
The complainant, the current Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere was stood down in the middle of giving her testimony after Lempurkel’s lawyer James Orengo told Resident Magistrate Hellen Onkwani that the time she had given him to go through the document was insufficient.
Lempurkel who was also facing murder Charges in Laikipia is alleged to have assaulted honorable Korere by slapping her on the left cheek and kicking her on the lower abdomen causing her injuries.
The accused is alleged to have committed the offense willfully and unlawfully on 21 of November 2016 at Harambee house in Nairobi.
The MP denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of 100,000 or a bond of the same amount.
Lempurkel was arrested on November 23rd and taken to the Kileleshwa Police Station a day after Korere accused him of assault.
The former MP seems to be on the wrong side of the law often as in July this year, he had been arrested and presented before Kibera Law courts over making incitement remarks.
The hearing which has been postponed five times now will continue on 9th October 2017.
