MCA aspirant for Hospital Ward in Mathare in court for shooting at opponents

An MCA aspirant for Hospital ward in Mathare 4B area has been arraigned in court and charged with two counts of offenses.

Geoffery Okuto Otieno was charged with going armed in public with a pistol without lawful excuse and unlawfully firing live ammunition in a manner likely to cause terror to the members of the public gathered at the said place.

The aspirant was also charged with creating disturbance in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by firing live ammunition.

The accused appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and pleaded not guilty to both charges.

He was released on a bond of Sh50, 000 or a cash bail of Sh30, 000. The case will be heard on March 31st 2017.

According to the police, it is alleged that on April 23rd, two other aspirants for Hospital ward Kennedy ooko onam and sefo lumwadi kibira had met their supporters at kosevo and mucedo areas.

On their way at about 5pm, on reaching the ODM office at Mathare 4b they met fellow aspirant namely Geoffrey okako otieno who is the accused person had blocked the way with vehicles and addressing his supporters.

The two aspirants pleaded with Otieno to allow them pass but his supporters showered them with stones thus injuring aspirant Kennedy ooko onam.

Onam implored with the accused to plead with his supporters to allow them pass but instead warned them that he would shoot at them.

Soon after, Onam noticed the suspect fire his gun in the air which sent the public in panic.

The injured aspirant was rushed to Uzima dispensary where he was treated and discharged. They made a report to Pangani police station and the accused was arrested and his firearm recovered. He however did produce a certificate to show that he is a licensed firearm holder.
