Medicins du Monde Regional coordinator Costagama charged in Nairobi

Medicins du Monde, a French NGO regional coordinator has been charged before a Nairobi court with being unlawfully present in Kenya and working without a permit.
Tessio Valbuena De Costagama who is a Spanish national was charged with being unlawfully present in Kenya without permission from an immigration officer, an act which invalidated her visitor’s pass.
She was also charged with engaging in employment at Medicins du Monde located in Lavington, Chalbi Drive Gate 24 along Isaac Gathanga Road.
Costagama was further charged with obstructing immigration officer from exercising their duty.
It is alleged that on 6th March 2018 at the NGO’s offices, she willfully obstructed two immigration officers, Timothy Njoroge and David Matiti from exercising their duties by preventing them from accessing the said offices.
The accused person was lastly charged with failing to register as a foreign national in contravention of the Kenya citizenship and immigration Act 2011.
Costagama pleaded not guilty and was granted a bond of Sh 1 million or alternative cash bail of Sh 200,000.
The case will be heard on 28th March 2018.
