North Eastern human smuggling: Police officer charged

An Administration police officer suspected to be involved in human smuggling in the North Eastern part of Kenya has been charged in Nairobi alongside two others.

Constable Edwin Sawe Kipchirchir is charged with facilitating irregular entry of an alien into Kenya.

The officer is said to have been driving a motor vehicle Registration no.GKB 422J Subaru outback, black in colour fitted with civilian registration No.KCJ 710M attached to North Eastern Regional Commissioner to facilitate the irregular entry of five people in to Kenya.

He is alleged to have committed the offence on 19th July 2019 along Juja road in Nairobi County.

Kipchirchir who is a driver attached in Garissa is also charged with unlawful use of the said police vehicle.

He if further charged alongside Omar Noor Abdi and Minhad Mohamed Abdi with five counts of of reasonably being suspected to be smuggling human beings.

The three denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Kenneth Cheruiyot .

They were granted a bond of Sh 1 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000.
The magistrate ordered that the vehicle involved be released to the regional Commissioner of North Eastern after application by the state.

The case will be mentioned on 15th August and be heard on 18th September 2019.
