Starehe MP Charles Njagua Kanyi alias Jaguar has been released on a cash bail of Sh 500,000 after denying incitement to violence charges.
Jaguar is accused of inciting Kenyans against foreign nationals living in the country.
The court heard that uttered words to wit “sis hatuongei juu ya wachinese wasita, sisi tunaongea juu ya mania ya watubwametoka nchi za nje wamekuja kufanya kazi hapa, na mimi nataka niseme leo, mimi napea serikali masaa ishirini na nne, kama hao watu hawatakua wamerudi kwao, mimi kama mjumbe was hapa tutaingia kwa hizo maduka wanafanyia kazi, sisi tutawatoa, tutawapiga na tutawapeleka airport”,….
The MP is alleged to have committed the offence on 24th June this year at Nyamakima within Nairobi County without lawful excuse.
His lawyer Duncan Okatch said his client is innocent until proven otherwise through a judicial hearing.
Okatch told the court that his client is a Member of Parliament so he ought to be granted very favourable bail/bond terms as he will always appear in court if and when directed by the court.
“The substance of the charge in terms of foreigner being in Kenya is not a straight forward issue and indeed each state through the laws had e duty to protect the opportunities existing for its citizens,” Okatch submitted.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi directed the matter to be heard on 4th September.
