Weston Hotel tells court it is being embattled for cheap political drama

Weston Hotel has told the Environment and Lands court that it is being embattled for cheap political drama.

In their submissions through Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi, the Hotel argued that the suit is a conspiracy between the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and certain political actors to politicise the matter for its association with the Deputy President William Ruto and 2022 politics.

Weston is sued over a parcel of land that initially belonged to a state agency by KCAA who wants the title deed revoked  even as the National Lands Commissions maintains that Weston Hotel should retain the land but compensate KCAA.

SC Abdullahi urged the court to dismiss the case for lack of jurisdiction and because it is being prosecuted to damage Dr Ruto politically since

“It is a cheap attempt on the part of the conspirators to malign and scandalise the Deputy President because it is believed that he has certain interest and association with the property,” the lawyer submitted.

Weston supported the argument by the NLC that the case should be dismissed because the agency made a mistake by filing a fresh case in the same court instead of appealing against its decision.

“Your honour it is our humble submission that the only reason why the petitioner (KCAA) filed a fresh petition before this court and decided not to go for appeal is because it wants to generate publicity and press coverage for the scheme it was instructed to undertake,” SC Ahmednasir submitted.
