A 21 year old lady has been charged with impersonating a nurse at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Sharlene Nyaboke Oraro is accused of falsely presenting herself as a nurse at the NHIF offices of the said hospital working at clinic No.24.
It is alleged that the accused presented herself as Sharlene Nyaboke to Denis Otwere Mauti, a security guard at the said hospital on 25th July 2019 wearing a white dust coat.
She pleaded guilty to the charge before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.
It is alleged that the accused had even started helping clients to fill in their NHIF forms.
The guard allegedly became suspicious after she told him that she was a nurse at clinic No.24 and upon enquiring, it was confirmed that she was not a staff at the said hospital.
However, it is alleged that by the time the guard was coming back from confirming the same, the accused had already left since it was closing time.
According to sources, Nyaboke still presented herself as nurse and on being questioned she could not give a satisfactory explanation to the security.
After pleading guilty to the charges, the accused asked the court to forgive her since she has a child who depends on her.
When given an opportunity to address the court by the magistrate, the accused said that she was a third year student at the University of Nairobi under the school of nursing and had been on attachment at KNH.
However, when asked which UON campus she studies, she said “Kenyatta campus” yet the said University does not have such a campus.
She went further to tell the court that she lives at Soweto Hostels which belong to the Kenya Medical Training College with a friend.
When told to express herself using English language by the magistrate, she could barely construct a sentence.
The court doubted her statements and directed that a probation report be filed before making any determination.
The court directed that the case be mentioned on 5th August.
