Activist wants Telco companies prohibited from registering subscribers using photos

An activist has moved in court seeking to quash a directive by the Communication Authority requiring telecommunications companies to register their customers afresh using their photos.

Eliud Karanja Matindi the High Court to quash the directive requiring Safaricom, Airtel, Telekom among others to collect, process and retain photographic images of their customers.

The new directive requires subscribers to present their Identity Card and a photo failure to which they will be deregistered.

He further wants the high court to quash the Kenya Information and Telecommunication (registration of subscribers of Telecommunication), Regulation 2014 legal Notice No. of 2014.
