Another businessman charged over sale of expired baby diapers

Another businessman has been charged in Nairobi in connection with the sale of expired diapers in October last year.

John Githinji Gichuhi is accused of intending to sell substandard expired baby diapers after being found in different processes of erasing the manufacturer and expiry dates of 5094 bales of EZEE baby diapers.

He is alleged to have committed the offence on 11 October 2018 at Imperial Industrial Park godowns in Mlolongo Machakos County, jointly with others not before court.

Gichuhi also faces a charge of offering for sale the substandard diapers without a valid Import Standardization Mark (IS-Mark) printed on them.

In another count, the businessman is accused of applying the IS-Mark without to the expired EZEE diapers without a valid permit issued by the Kenya Bureau of standards.

The accused denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.

His lawyer David Ayuo told the court that the matter was related to another already before court and requested his client be granted similar bond terms as in the other case.

The accused was thereafter released on a cash bail of Sh 200,000.

The case will be heard on 8th February.
