Businessmen charged after failing to pay Sh 43 million rice

Two businessmen have been charged with the offence of obtaining goods by false pretences after failing to pay for over 15000 bags of rice.

Joseph Mbugua Waweru and Abdulahi Hussein Ali are accused of obtaining 15,873 bags of Pakistan rice packed in 25kgs valued at Sh 43,870,350 from Abdirizak Abdulahi Maalim by falsely pretending that they were in a position to pay for the said goods, a fact they knew to be false.

The two are alleged to have committed the offence on diverse dates between 16th October and 16th November 2020 at Industrial area within Nairobi county, jointly with others not before court, with intent to defraud.

They denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi and were granted a bond of Sh 5 million each or a cash bail of Sh 3 million each and provide one contact person.

The case will be heard on 29th March 2021.
