Businesswoman acquitted in Sh 14M fraud involving T.P Mazembe 2020 flight to Algiers

A businesswoman implicated in a 2020 Sh 14 million fraud involving Congo football team T.P Mazembe has been acquitted.

Najma Chaudhry of Ecobeast Travel was acquitted on 23rd September 2023, by Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu.

This was after the court ruled that Chaudhry had no case to answer in regards to the offences she had been charged with.

The businesswoman had been charged alongside Abdikhani Ibrahim Ali and  with obtaining USD 132,440 (then approx. Sh 14 million) from T. P Mazembe of the Republic of Congo, being payment to charter the said players from Lubumbashi to Algiers on 31st March 2020.

The two had been suspected of committing the offence between 26th March and 4th April 2020 in Nairobi, with intent to defraud.

The two are also accused that between 26th March and 4th April 2020 in Nairobi, with intent to defraud, the two jointly conspired together to defraud T. P Mazembe of Republic of Congo Sh 14 million being payment to charter the said players from Lubumbashi to Algiers on 31st March 2020.
