Congolese national charged over Sh 15 million gold fraud

A Congolese national has been charged with obtaining Sh 15 million from a foreigner in a fake gold sale.

Dally Poba Puati is accused of obtaining USD 100,000 (approx Sh 15,000,000) from Isah Mikail Muhammad by falsely pretending he was in a position to selling five kilograms of gold, a fact he knew to be false.

Puati is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 1st August and 1st September 2023 in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, jointly with others not before court and with intent to defraud.

The accused is also facing another charge of conspiring with others not before court to steal the said money.

He denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi.

Puati will remain in custody until 15th May pending a probation officer’s report which will guide the court in determining appropriate bond terms.
