Convicted drug dealer loses property to State

A convicted drug dealer has lost two properties after the High Court ruled that they are proceeds of crime.

Justice Esther Maina ordered the properties located at Mirema Drive in Nairobi and Ruiru in Kiambu, belonging to Joseph Kinyanjui Wanjiru to be forfeited to the State.

Joseph Kinyanjui Wanjiru  was sentenced to 15 years in jail and a fine of Sh 42 million.

The Assets Recovery Agency told the court that Kinyajui was arrested on the 7th December 2016 at Drive-In Estate in Ruaraka.

He was then arraigned in court on 14th December 2016.

“During the arrest, a search was conducted in his residence and a total of 4,857.87 grams of heroin whose market value was Sh 14,573,610 was recovered,” the ARA said.

Consequently, Wanjiru was charged with the offence of trafficking narcotic drugs before JKIA court.

The agency commenced investigations to recover proceeds of crime derived from the illegitimate trafficking and trading of narcotic drugs.

“On 6th August 2019, the agency received information that the convict had acquired asses using the proceeds obtained from the illegitimate trade, ” the agency submitted.

The properties are  L.R Ruiru East Block 1 (Githunguri) 1436, Residential House No. 118, L.R No. 7965/89 and Certificate of Title I.R Number 201022 Mirema Drive (Off Thika Road) Roysambu held in the convict’s name.
