Director of company behind Westlands home demolition charged with robbery

The director of a company behind the demolition of a house in Westlands, Nairobi has been charged with robbery with violence.

Nathaniel Kipkemboi Barmasai, the director of Lariak Properties Limited is accused of robbing electronic appliances, jewellery and assorted household goods valued at Sh 18,097,000, the property of Niraj Batuk Shah and Avani Niraj Shah.

According to the charge sheet, immediately before the commission of the offence, the accused threatened to use violence against the Shah’s who were at the time occupying the said property.

Barmasai is alleged to have committed the offence on 4th November 2022 at Westlands – school lane area in Nairobi, jointly with others not before court.

He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo.

The accused was granted a bond of Sh 3 million with alternative cash bail of Sh 2 million.

An auctioneer with Siuma Auctioneers has also been found guilty of contempt of court for unlawful eviction of the Shah family.

Zachariah Baraza is accused of leading a group of 25 people to the said property where they stole and vandalised property.

Baraza will appear in court on 17th November 2022 for mitigation and sentencing.
