Goldenscape Greenhouse Ltd director charged with fraud

The Director of Goldenscape Greenhouse Limited has been charged with 21 counts of obtaining money by false pretenses from unsuspecting Kenyans.

Peter Wangai Muriithi is accused of obtaining Sh1, 039,000 from Eunice Mosiara Okwoyo for three green houses by falsely pretending he was in position to pay her Sh 275, 000, a return investment on each greenhouse after every six months, a fact he knew was false.

Muriithi is alleged to have committed the offence on diverse dates between 31st January and 19th September 2019 at Goldenscape Greenhouse Ltd offices at Kimathi House within Nairobi County, with intent to defraud.

He is also charged with obtaining Sh 1,994,000 from Alice Waithera Kinyua for five greenhouses by falsely pretending that he was in position to pay her Sh 275, 000 a return investment on each greenhouse.

The court heard that he committed the offence on 12th July, 2019 at Goldenscape Greenhouse Ltd at Kimathi House within Nairobi County, with intent to defraud.

The accused is also charged with obtaining Sh1,40,000 from Douglas Ng’aNg’a Muthoni for four greenhouses by falsely pretending that he was in position to pay him Sh275,000 investment on each house after six months. He is facing 18 counts more counts of a similar offence.

The defense asked the court to order the accused to deposit his passport in court because he is a flight risk since two other directors have since fled to South Africa.

Wangai’s lawyer has dismissed the allegations by the victims and told the court that his client was the only director of Goldenscape.

Wangai denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku. He was granted a bond of Sh 5 million with alternative cash bail of Sh 2 million.
