Matatu driver charged after hitting and killing Deputy IG’s daughter charged

The KMO sacco matatu driver accused of causing the death of the daughter of Deputy Inspector General Edward Mbugua has been charged causing death by dangerous driving.

Patrick Macharia Magu is accused that on 17th June 2021 at around 0800hours at Tom Mboya and Marugua lane junction within Nairobi County, being the driver of motor vehicle KBR 065B Isuzu mini bus drove the said motor vehicle on the road recklessly, at a speed or in a manner which was dangerous to the public having regard to all circumstances of the case including the nature, the condition and the use of the road at the time or maybe reasonable expected to be on the road, carelessly reversed, knocked and sandwiched Meline Waithera Mbugua thereby caused her death.

The accused of driving the said matatu on a public road while some parts and equipments were not properly maintained thus making it be a danger on other road users or passengers traveling. The windows were tinted and had no valid inspection sticker.

He denied the charges before Nairobi traffic Magistrate Martha Nanzushi and was granted a bond of Sh 600,000 with alternative cash bail of Sh 300,000.
