Nigerian preacher charged in Nairobi over Sh 28 million Stanbic bank theft

A Nigerian preacher has been charged in Nairobi with conspiracy to steal Sh 28.7 million property of Stanbic Bank.

Wealth Ochelle alias Apostle Wealth who operates a church in Shanzu, Mombasa County, is accused of conspiring with others not before court to defraud Stanbic Bank Ltd Sh 28,779,600.

Ochelle is alleged to have committed the offence on diverse dates between the 30th November 2022 and 8th November 2023 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya.

The preacher is also charged with handling property. The court heard that Ochelle, otherwise than in the course of stealing, dishonestly received Sh 340,000 into his Safaricom M-pesa account number knowing or having reason to believe it to be stolen or unlawfully obtained money.

He denied the charges before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina. He was released on a Sh 500,000 bond.
