Police officer alleged to have killed his friend at a bar to be detained for five days

A police officer who is alleged to have fought with his friend who died as a result of the disagreement will remain in custody for five more days. Joseph Wambugu Wanjau who is currently based at Gigiri police station will be detained in at Kileleshwa police station as police sought more time to complete investigations

While delivering her ruling, Senior Resident Magistrate Miriam Mugure said that there is need for investigations to be completed since the suspect was only arrested yesterday.

She added that it was evident that a life was lost in the process of disagreement of the suspect and and the deceased hence there is need for investigations to be carried out.

It is alleged that on 28th February 2017 around midnight at Ngara Fig tree market stalls the suspect is said to have had a disagreement with the deceased Juma Mwibithi.

The suspect is alleged to have pushed the deceased who fell down and hit the pavement and started bleeding from the mouth and was announced dead on arrival at Gurunanak  hospital. The police also said that since the incident happened in front of an I.C3 CCTV camera, they need time to exploit it for the purpose of investigations

The matter will be mentioned on 7th March for further directions.
