Televangelist David ‘Gakuyo’ Ngare charged with Sh 1B fraud

Televangelist and founder of Ekeza Sacco David Kariuki Ngare alias Gakuyo has been charged over Sh 1 billion fraud.

Gakuyo is accused that between the years 2015 and 2018 at Ekeza Sacco Limited offices at Yala Towers in Nairobi, jointly with others not before court, he conspired to steal Sh 1,052,744,094, the property of members of Ekeza Sacco.

The accused is further facing 14 more charges of obtaining money by false pretenses.

The televangelist is alleged to have obtained different amounts of money from his victims by pretending that the Sacco could give them loans three times the amount invested.

Others are said to have been defrauded through non existent property investments and interest growth in Gakuyo Investment Ltd.

He denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi.

The preacher was granted a bond of Sh 20 million with alternative cash bail of Sh 10 million.
