Two Nairobi polling clerks charged for giving two ballot papers to a voter

Two Nairobi polling clerks have been arraigned in a Nairobi court and charged with breach of official duty after they were found to be giving voters two ballot papers in the concluded general elections.

 

Florence Andia and Jantrix Chanzia who were posted at Kawangware polling station No.004 at Kawangware in Dagoretti North constituency, Nairobi were charged with supplying an extra ballot paper for governor s/no GV00204566 to a voter during the voting exercise.

 

The two, then IEBC employees had pleaded guilty to the offence before Nairobi Milimani courts Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.

 

However, the two changed their plea to not guilty after the magistrate explained to them the repercussions of the offence committed.

 

The two had been brought to court on August 10th under a miscellaneous application seeking to detain them for a week in order to complete investigations.

 

In the application, the police were requesting for more time to record the statements of the IEBC officials and observers who by then busy with the election process.

 

The two were released on a cash bail of Sh 50,000.

 

The case will be mentioned on August 28th and will be heard on September 12th 2017.
