Woman charged with Sh 12M fraud obtained for import second-hand clothes from China

A woman has been charged with obtaining over Sh 12 Million from a businesswoman to import second-hand clothes from China.

Mary Wangui Gichuhi is accused of obtaining Sh 12.4 million from Ann Piera Wanja Ireri by falsely presenting that she was in a postion to import second hand clothes (Mitumba) from China to Kenya, a fact she knew to be false.

Gichuhi is also charged with conspiring with another not before court to defraud Ireri the said money.

It is alleged that she committed the offense on diverse dates between 6th July, 2023 and 7th March, 2024 at the Central Business District in Nairobi.

She denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi and was granted a cash bail of Sh 600,000.
