Betika Head of technology has been charged with stealing Sh 11 million from shop and deliver (Betika).

Fred Gitonga Njagi is accused of stealing Sh 11,007,393 which came in his possession by virtue of his employment.

Njagi is accused of committing the offence on diverse dates between 13th January 2022 and 3rd February 2022 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court.

He denied the offence before Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh 2 million.

The accused wanted the court to defer plea taking for seven days. This was to allow him to pursue a constitutional petition where he accuses police of violating his rights.

However, the prosecution opposed the the application stating that the issues of rights violation had been raised before another court.

The magistrate directed that Njagi pleads to the charge then proceed to the high court to seek redress on violation of his rights.

“Taking plea will not prevent the accused from seeking redress at the high court,” SPM Kimilu said.
