Four charged over Sh 13M stolen diesel

Four men have been charged over the theft pf Sh 13.5 million diesel.

The accused are Douglas Macharia Maina, Dominic Kimotho, Evan Njuguna Mweha and Lewis Musau Masaku.

The court heard that the four conspired to commit a felony, namely, stealing of 70,000 liters of diesel worth Sh 13,580,000.

The four are alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 23rd November and 20th December, 2023 in Nairobi, jointly with others not before court.

Mweha and Masaku are also charged with handling stolen goods.

According to the charge sheet, the two, otherwise than in the course of steal, dishonestly received 10,000 liters of diesel worth Sh 1,940,000 knowing or having reason to believe that they were stolen goods.

The 10,000 liters of diesel were found at Industrial Area Depot within Nairobi county.

Maina was also allegedly found with 30,000 liters of diesel at Komarock Petrol Station in Nairobi worth Sh 5,820,000 knowing or having reason to believe it to be stolen goods.

On the other hand, Kimotho is said to have been found with 10,000 liters worth Sh 1,940,000 at Trojans Petrol station, Kiboko knowing or having reason to believe that they were stolen goods.

They denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi. Each was granted a cash bail of Sh 500,000 each.
