Kenyan actress and comedian Eunice Wambui alias Nyasuguta has narrated how she and two other friends were assaulted and robbed property worth over 200,000 in a club.

While giving her testimony before Senior Resident Magistrate Electa Riany, Nyasuguta as famously known, said that the chaos erupted after she demanded the waiter to avail one of the KCB ATM cards that had been given to her to clear a Sh 1650 bill.

She informed the court that a friend of hers by the name George Maina who had joined them for a meeting at Oleng Sidai club along Kiambu Road had given the waiter two cards to clear the bill since one of them, as alleged by Maina had insufficient funds and could not tell which one it was.

The accused persons are the proprietor of the said club John Ngugi Kabogo, a bouncer Joseph Karanja and a waiter Dorica Wambuga who face robbery with violence charges.

The three are accused of Stealing cash and a mobile phone worth over Sh 60,000, assaulting Nyasuguta, and being found in possession of stolen property namely a mobile phone and the KCB ATM card the waiter had denied having been given.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on 20th March 2018.

Managers’ attack

According to the actor, she demanded to see the manager of the club (Kabogo) to sort the issue but on arrival, he started assaulting her while touching her inappropriately.

She accused him of touching her breasts and buttocks while tearing her clothes, actions which made her slap him.

The emotional Nyasuguta further told the court that the accused persons stopped assaulting after she called out to another colleague who was with them known as Harrison Wambogo to take a video of the scenario but they turned on him the moment he took out his phone to record.

“They robbed of my gold earrings and necklace roughly valued at Sh 200,000. They drugged me on the floor where I sustained multiple injuries that saw my sister take me to hospital,” said the actress.

She added….”my ego was bruised due to the manner in which I was handled….” She said that they had not refused to settle the 1650 bill as alleged since that had already settled a bill of Sh 14,000 that they had eaten and drunk before the incident.

George Maina who also testified in the matter confirmed to the court that indeed he gave the waiter two KCB ATM cards since he was not sure which among them had insufficient funds.

According to Maina, the second accused person, Karanja approached their table after they inquired the whereabouts of the card and asked him in Swahili….Umekataa Kulipa? Then started raining blows on him.

While receiving blow on the floor, he saw Kabogo come out with a metal rod that he started beating them up with.

After the security detail of the premises intervened, he went out, got a taxi and went home.

The witnesses refuted claims by the defense that they were too drunk to remember the events that took place that night.

After the incident, the matter was reported at Muthaiga Police station and the accused persons later arrested.

The hearing will continue on 5th September 2018.
