The infamous ‘doctor’ James Mugo Ndichu and another have been charged with obtaining money by false pretences.

Mugo and one Peter Karanja Njau charged with obtaining Sh 100, 000 from Florence Byegone  by pretending they were in a position to facilitate credit transfer units in Mount Kenya University.

The two are alleged to have committed the offence on 19th February 2018 at Laico Hotel in Nairobi within Nairobi County.

They pleaded not guilty before Principal Magistrate Benson Nzakyo and were granted a bond of Sh 200,000 with alternative cash bail of Sh 50,000.

The case will be heard on 11 May 2018.

Mugo, famously known as Mugo wa Wairimu is facing another criminal case in which he was charged with rape, operating a clinic without valid licences and masquerading as a gynecologist.

He also denied operating a drug shop not registered by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board and employing two unregistered lab technicians identified as Christine Mumbua Philip and Jane Muthoni.

He was also charged with presenting himself as a doctor and purporting to practice medicine knowing he was not a registered and licensed physician.

Mugo faced another charge of being in possession of and using a radiation device without a permit from the Radiation Protection Board.

The ‘doctor’ was arrested at a hotel in Limuru after it was alleged that he sedated and raped female patients who visited his clinic Prestige Clinic in Nairobi’s Githurai 44 area.

The allegation came to the limelight after a video allegedly shot at his office showing a man believed to be him raping a patient who appeared unconscious was exposed by Citizen TV leading to public outcry.

His two clinics that were closed remain guarded by police after angry mob threatened to set them ablaze.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist’s Board dissociated itself with Mugo whom it said operated with no legal documents because he is not a registered doctor.

The case will be heard on 28th May 2018.
