Three charged over ICT ministry Sh 60M fake laptop tender

Three men have been charged in Nairobi over Sh 60 million fake tender.

Erick Otieno Atanga, Alex Stephen Ogolla and Mofat Gicheru Kamau alias Aden are accused of conspiring to commit a felony namely stealing USD 398,000 (apprx Sh 60 million) from Vijay Virma by falsely pretending that they were in a position to secure for him a tender for supply of laptops and other accessories to the Ministry of Information, Communication And Digital Economy under contract number MICT/VOL 1/VACC/2023-1, a fact they knew to be false.

The trio is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 4th September and 30th December 2023 at unknown place within Nairobi, jointly with others not before court.

In another count, the accused persons are accused of making a false document namely request for quotation reference number MICT/VOLI/VACC/2023-1 purporting it to be a genuine and valid document issued by the ICT ministry, a fact they to be false.

It is alleged that they committed the offense on 1st November 2023 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya with intent to defraud NVT mobile telecom and accessories trading FZCO company of the Sh 60 million.

They all denied the offenses before Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina and were granted a bond of Sh 3 million and one surety of a similar amount.

The court did not give the option of a cash bail. The case case will be mentioned on 26th March 2024 for pre-trial.
