Nairobi advocate charged with defrauding land buyers

A Nairobi advocate has been charged with conspiracy to defraud and four counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.

Edwin Kirunja Njagi for E.K Njagi and company advocate was charged that on or about  May 12th 2009 at unknown place within the republic of Kenya jointly with another not before court, conspired to defraud Frances Wanjiru Gathecha more than sh 8.6 million.

The accused is alleged to have obtained the money by pretending that he was in a position to sell him a 1.5 acre piece of land situated along Eastern Bypass at Githurai 44, a fact he knew to be false.

The advocate who was arrested at ishiara in embu county was also charged with obtaining a total of sh 4.4 million from three other unsuspecting victims by pretending that he could sell to them the same piece of land at Githurai 44.

Njagi is alleged to have defrauded the victims on diverse dates in the year 2009 at Shankardass house in Nairobi county .

He denied the charges before Nairobi Milimani Law courts Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and was released on a bond of sh 1 million or a cash bail of Sh 300,000.

The case will be heard on 19th September.
