Man charged with obtaining Sh 25 million for ‘gold’

A man has been arraigned in court and charged with obtaining over Sh 25 million by false pretenses.

Samir Munyinyi was charged with obtaining the Sh 27, 700,000 from a businessman by the name Mertoglu Muhammet by falsely pretending that he was in a position to him 360 kilograms of gold, a fact he knew to be false.

Munyinyi is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 28th March and 11th AprilĀ  2018 at Wu Yi plaza along Galana road, Kilimani in Nairobi county.

The court head that Munyinyi comitted the offense jointly with others not before court.

The accused, who has been in custody for several days as the police complete the investigations denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku.

Munyinyi’s lawyer requested the court to grant him lenient bond or bail terms saying that he is not at flight risk.

The magistrate granted the accused a bond of Sh 2 million and one surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Sh 500,000.

In addition, the magistrate said that if Munyinyi was to be released on cash bail, he should avail one contact person to deposit his/her ID in court.

The case will be heard on 9th September 2018.
