Former governor Mwangi Wa Iria’s wife charged in Sh 351M graft

The wife to former Murang’a County governor Mwangi wa Iria has been released on bail after pleading not guilty in the Sh 351 million graft case.

Jane Waigwe Kimani was charged alongside David Maina Kiama, a director of Top Image Media Consultants Ltd before Chief Magistrate Victor Wakumile.

Also charged in the matter is Former governor Wa Iria, Patrick Kagumo Mukuria, Jane Wanjiru Mbuthia, David Maina Njeri, Solomon Mutura Kimani and Peter Muturi Karanja who pleaded to the charges on 30th April 2024.

The accused persons are charged with conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption to wit, fraud in respect to an unlawful contract for the provision of media buying services awarded to Top Image Media Consultants Limited by Muranga County government amounting to Sh 351, 097,401.15

Other charges include money laundering, dealing with suspect property and conflict of interest.

The two denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Celesa Asis Okore and were released on a cash bail of Sh 1 million each.

The court further ordered Jane Waigwa to deposit her passport in court and the two not to leave the jurisdiction of the court.

The case will be mentioned on 14th May for pre-trial directions.
