An American national working with Redavia Kenya Limited has been charged in a Nairobi court with creating disturbance in a Nairobi Hotel.

Alex Harpe is accused of creating disturbance in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by threatening and chasing away the receptionists at Azure hotel in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

Harpe is alleged to have committed the offence on 14th October 2019.

The accused is further charged with assaulting a police officer by the name Duncan Kiprono occasioning him actual bodily harm at the same hotel.

Harpe denied the offence before Senior Resident Magistrate Helen Onkwani.

The prosecution objected to his release on bail on grounds that he is at flight risk and might abscond the jurisdiction of the court since he is a foreigner with no fixed place of abode.

The accused person had allegedly threatened to kill the said officer.

The court heard that the foreigner, who is a senior official at the said company is being investigated for other offences.

His lawyers, however, told the court that their client is an employee of the said company and has a fixed place of abode.

The lawyer furnished the court with a letter from the company confirming the same therefore not at flight risk.

The court will deliver its ruling on 30th October. For now the accused person will remain in custody.
