Two women have been charged with obtaining goods worth Sh 220 million from a company by pretending they were employees of World Food Programme.
Margaret Wanjiru Kuria and Serah Watiri Gathura are accused of obtaining 9,903 90Kgs bags of white maize, 9,450 cartons of 25×800 grams of menengai bar soap, 9,700 jericans of 20 liters Pika cooking oil and 4,400 50Kgs bags of brown sugar al valued at USD 1,673,209 (apprx Sh 220 million) from Frontline Tarkipa Media Limited.
The two allegedly obtained the said goods by falsely pretending that they were employees of WFP which was to pay for the said items, a fact they knew to be false.
Kuria and Gathura are also charged with conspiring with others not before court to defraud Frontline the said goods
It is alleged that the two committed the offense on diverse dates between 7th February and 4th April 2024 in Nairobi.
The accused persons denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki.
They were released on a cash bail of Sh 500,000 each.
